Walk of Fame in Los Angeles

On this day 65 years ago, a star for director Stanley Kramer was the first laid into the sidewalk for the Walk of Fame in Los Angeles. Some contribute this honor to Joanne Woodward, but she was the first celebrity actually photographed with the terrazzo and brass monument. Since then, thousands have followed. The Hollywood Walk of Fame stretches 15 blocks along Hollywood Boulevard, and 3 blocks along Vine Street.

Walk of Fame Categories
Categories along the walk include individual and group contributions to radio, motion pictures, TV, music, and theater. A sports entertainment category was added in 2023.
Gene Autry is the only individual to achieve all 5 stars from the original categories. Some have been honored in both individual and group stars in the same category. This includes Michael Jackson as a solo artist and as a member of The Jacksons. Same can be said for The Beatles. Visitors can find their collective group star at the southeast corner of Hollywood Boulevard and La Brea next to Elvis Presley. The Fab Four have their own individuals stars in front of Capitol Records on Vine Street.
One major celebrity you won’t find on the ground? Muhammad Ali. He requested that his star not be walked upon. Because of this, his star can be found on the wall to the right when entering through the main arch of The Dolby Theatre.

Upcoming Ceremony
Look for legendary director, writer and composer John Carpenter to receive the 2806th star on April 3rd, 2025 in front of The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. This is scheduled for 1130AM, and fans and spectators should arrive early to get a better view near the podium.
As with all ceremonies, guest speakers can include some of the biggest names in Hollywood. This is a must-attend experience for fans of 1978’s Halloween! After the event, fans can even walk the short distance to find two of the homes used as filming locations for this classic horror film!

The walk of fame can be included in Tour du Jour’s “LA Story” or our “LA Short Story” excursions. Interested in a tour that involves the Halloween filming locations, along with the famous scandals and murders in our city? Look into our popular “Hollywood Chills” tour.
